1.4 million orphans in Egypt alone — the system needs transformation
UNICEF estimates 140 million children globally live without parental care. Most are in institutions, even though family-based care produces far better outcomes.
Africa carries one of the heaviest burdens of the child care crisis. Egypt, at its heart, shoulders responsibility for the MENA region’s largest orphan population.
Many leave care at 18 with no family support, no savings, and no preparation. Sanad works to change this from the root.
We don’t just support individual children — we transform the entire alternative care ecosystem: developing care homes, empowering caregivers, facilitating Kafala, and preparing youth for life after care.
For 16 years Sanad has been supporting the ecosystem of alternative parental care through its innovative solutions, its community awareness initiatives, and the services it provides for the rehabilitation of orphaned youth. The community evolved, and so did Sanad’s vision; it is not anymore limited to providing a dignified life for every orphan. Sanad contributes to a world where these young people can actually be change makers and shape their own future.
