“I have several plans in mind to achieve my goals, if one fails, another will work.”
Wageeh wasn’t a nerdy student, he laughs as he admits that he was a troublemaker. However, he didn’t fail. At a young age he realized the importance of thinking ahead for the future. According to the plan put for him by the orphanage, he was supposed to join a vocational secondary school. He challenged this plan and enrolled in a general secondary school. Before starting his secondary education, he had his first work experience, where he worked in a Speech and Behavior Center for children. He fell in love with that field and envisioned himself growing in it. He studied Psychology, philosophy, and social sciences with special dedication and managed to join the Faculty of Social Services in Helwan University, which he considers a step forward to entering the field of humanities and pedagogy.
“Mobader made all the difference, before that I was never able to speak to a public audience or express myself properly in front of people.”
Wageeh studied speech therapy for a whole year in parallel to his studies in the university. He started a diploma in Learning Difficulties, even though he’s not a graduate and he agreed to postpone receiving his certificate till after graduation. During that year he received practical training, and he was supported further by Sanad to identify his goals for the future. Through its program on Independence, he was able to set his priorities, and in Mobader (The Initiator); a community leadership program, he learnt how to make a plan and execute it in reality.
Wageeh also took part in a camp for skills’ development that was organized by Sanad in participation with ADEF. He later participated in the Storytelling Program. He elaborates on his various activities in Sanad and says “The storytelling program had a real impact on my mental health, so did Mobader. Through them, I was able to express my feelings.”
Wageeh then joined a special course provided by Sanad, specialized in vocational assessment. He graduated the course to work with Sanad on the evaluation and development of orphanages to serve the Ministry’s project on Deinstitutionalization, which aims at the improvement of care homes and the execution of the Foster Families project.
“While studying, I decided to dedicate all this time to my own self-development.”
Wageeh’s journey with Sanad continues, as it has always supported young men and women to explore themselves and reach their goals. Currently, he works on establishing Kayan, a mobile application that provides a list of integrated services for orphans. That project started right after he and his team had won a competition led by Giza Systems Co. Through Sanad, they entered the competition to create an idea for a profitable project that targets a certain category in the society. Sanad’s current role is providing guidance and mentorship to the operations team.
In 2023, Wageeh participated in the leadership camp led by the Sustainable Development Conference held in Egypt. The aim of the camp was for his group to create an idea that would serve all orphans in Egypt. With his mates, he started Gosour (Bridges) an association networking orphans from all over the republic, sharing and offering opportunities in work and education. Wageeh sees potential in all these projects, and he believes that achieving them is a necessity. Meanwhile, he only hopes for more support from his home till he graduates.
Wageeh is a well oriented person, he knows what he wants, and he’s always ready to try new paths. He doesn’t care much about what people think of him, as long as he is certain of his personal potential.
